Affection for Pocket Aces in Poker
You hear a lot of talk among poker players over what their favorite hand is, but in the end, when it comes down to it, there is nothing better than looking down to see two big aces in the whole, knowing that no matter what anyone else holds, you have the best of it right now. While the application of playing aces can get you stuck losing money to bad beats when you aren’t able to get away from them, in the long run, playing aces is bound to make everyone some money.
As a result the best hand in hold ‘em has amassed quite a list of nicknames, such as pocket rockets, American Airlines, the weapons of mass destruction, and etc. Though really, it doesn’t matter what you call them, they are what you want to see, especially when you are at an aggressive poker table where you are going to get paid on your big hands.
The thing about aces, though, is that they only come so often, and if you wait for them forever without playing anything else, you are likely going to never make a dollar. While aces are nice, they are definitely not the end all be all of poker. Anybody can play the nuts: the trick is to learning all the rest of it.
